Another banner day for gay marriage

Yeah for the state of Maine, according to Fixed News, Maine makes the 31st state to vote in a referendum to repeal a law that would have allowed gay marriage.

I am so proud to be from Misery today, I just can't stand it!! All I really have to say is 'why?' Why is my life and the happiness in my life less important than the rights of others? Why is it ok to discriminate against one entire section of humanity??

I know I don't shout from the rafters around here about being gay and how I believe we should all support each other, but come on! Can't we ever get to the point where it is ok for anyone to live their lives without extreme prejudice and interference? C and I don't spend every single moment showing pda to our neighbors far and wide. I have a really hard time believing that my personal life affects Joe Blow down the street. I would like to marry my wife (legally) in front of my family and friends, I don't think that is too much to ask for.

Sometimes this is just sooooo disappointing, I just have to rant! Thanks all for listening.

  1. "Us" vs. "Them" psychology is hard wired into the evolutionary processes of the brain, from way back when, when resources were scarce and clans (families) competed to survive.

Gay marriage threatens the "US" mentality of the predominantly Christian American voter. Just as do Jews, Muslims, and the new most reviled group in America--ATHEISTS.

(Of course, the average Christian Right voter doesn't GET evolutionary psychology, so they have to trot out their old, tired book for vindication. Which is where my kind get reviled.)

My son yesterday got fed up with election news and announced that he was going to run for President. My Jewish husband and I (the atheist) just laughed.

  2. I almost choked when I saw that referendum passed. According to all the pre-poll crap it looked like it wouldn't.

My whole family wanted the law to saty. My niece is gay and has been with her girlfriend for 15 years. I am saddened and angrey that she (and everyonr else) are denied fundamental basics.

  3. @The Mother-tell your boy that if he supports half the causes I support, I'll stand up and vote for him whenever he is ready!

@Aunt Becky-I was shocked also, I felt like surely in that area it would pass. It just felt like such a let down.

Oh, hon, it most certainly is NOT OK. Mean people suck.

Yes, I believe we can and that we will. I'm sorry that you have to wait on that, but we *will* get there. A lot of people believe in you and the protection of your rights. Know that.
